We charge a fixed price of $ 50 per page. For example, if your website contains 1 main page and 3 sub pages accessible from the main page, the total cost will amount to $ 200 ( 4 pages * $ 50).
Features we can include in a $50-webpage are text, frames, links to other pages, pictures that you provide in digital format, and a contact-form where visitors can leave their names and comments and request information. NOT included are features that require special programming or graphic work, like animations, slideshows, audio/video, interactive dialogs, or E-commerce / store-fronts.
If you require any of these features, we will be glad to study your requirements in detail and provide you with a time-/cost-estimate.
That charge applies only for pictures that are not in digital form like photos, slides, or your organisation's logo on paper.
The service includes scanning the picture and optimise it for Internet-display. Digital enhancements (eg: replace a white sky on a photograph with a blue one) are charged extra, pending on the workload involved.
A banner is a commercial message that can be used to advertise on another website, usually for a fee. We design your banner based on the material you supply for $ 20.
This package includes the following services:
This service displays your webpages on the Internet 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.
The purpose of an Internet address is to enable people to find you on the 'web. You have to decide on the Internet address you want for your organisation. Possible choices:
http://www.yourorganisation.com or
http://www.yourorganisation.org
There are registrar's fees payable for these kind of addresses. Currently they are about US$ 75 for 2 years. Note that these are 3rd party-charges, not Famtech's.
Alternatively, you can opt for a sub-domain address in our domain, like
http://yourorganisation.famtech.ca
Such an address is free of charge but it only works as long as you host your website on our server.
Minor changes to the webpages are included in the monthly fee. For bigger changes and overhauls, the charges explained in "Webpage Design" will re-apply.
We will provide you with a simple statistic about the visitors that came to your site every 3 months.
If visitors filled out a contact-form, which is part of our starter-kit, the form containing the message will be forwarded to your e-mail address immediately.
We provide you with up to 5 E-mail addresses. They will follow the Internet address you choose. Examples:
mary@yourorganisation.com
briansmith@famtech.ca
If you already have an E-mail address, we can forward all incoming mail to your existing E-mail address to save you from checking 2 mailboxes every time you are on the Internet.
Search-engines are used by people on the Internet to find webpages of a particular subject. For example, a person may type the words
Car Dealers Toronto
into a search-engine and get a list of car-dealers in Toronto who registered their websites with this search-engine.
As part of our hosting service, we will register your Internet address with 10 search-engines. Note however that we cannot guarantee if and how each search-engine will rank your site. This is outside our control. Once you have your Internet address and you want to register it with a particular search-engine, you can also do this yourself. Almost all search-engines provide a feature "Add address".
We will be glad to design your webpages. But do note that every webpage represents your organisation to the outside world, including existing and potential clients. It is therefore very important that you provide as much detailed input as possible to the design process. You can do that on a piece of paper, in a presentation or in a word-processing document.
Before your pages go online, we will ask you to proof-read them. Please do that carefully.
Start simple. Most webpages you see today evolved from simpler original versions.
Pages cluttered with pictures, graphics or banners take a longer time to load and display on a visitor's screen; an average person will not have the patience to wait longer than about 15 seconds; if the page is not displayed at that time, he/she will simply click and visit somewhere else.
Therefore do not overload your pages. Split the contents logically into multiple pages. Your startup page especially must load fast and be kept simple. Its main purpose is to act as an index to your content-pages.
An easy to remember Internet-address like
http://myorg.com
has an advantage over a longer one like
http://myorg.famtech.ca or
http://www.famtech.ca/myorg
However, rarely will people type in such an address on their browsers. Most webpages are "clicked upon" from a link, that means found through a search-engine, a related website or a banner (= paid advertisement). Then people will usually bookmark a webpage they like and return to it later just by clicking on the bookmark.
Once you have your Internet address, stick to it ! Changing it later will invalidate all links other sites (like search-engines) have built to your site. Links from other sites to your site are very valuable as they have the potential to generate more visits to your site, and from people who would otherwise never visit.
Also, people who have bookmarked your site in their browser will no longer find it if you change the address.
A "forwarding" address can solve some of the problems but it will also create new ones.
A banner is a commercial message that pops up on a webpage, usually in square form, colorful and animated. Clicking on a banner will transfer the visitor to the advertiser's website. We can set up a banner for your organisation (see under BANNERS). You can then display this banner wherever you like, typically on high-volume traffic-sites like cbc.ca or canada.com. As a rule: The higher the traffic-volume of the banner-hosting site, the higher they will charge to display your banner. If you are prepared to spend money to advertise your website in order to attract more visitors, we recommend that you find high-volume traffic site that is related to your website's content. If your website does not deal with sports at all, then don't display a banner on tsn.ca. In principle, the general advertising rules apply. When considering a site to host your banner, check the fee schedule carefully. Do some comparison-shopping.
Some sites display your banners free of charge if in return you display one or two of their banners on your website.
